Such control systems consist of both Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) in standalone applications and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) which utilize local processing units at equipment centers and a centrally located master PLC. In the DCS case, such systems are designed to facilitate distributed control with interconnecting controllers spanning several miles and include a variety of options for user interface.
